Research Computing Collaborations

Research Computing works with Harvard Medical School investigators, on and off-quad, to bring the power of high-performance computing and advanced statistics to analyses.

Our Featured Collaboration

XSEDE is a consortium of multiple supercomputing partner institutions including the Texas Advanced Computing Center [TACC], San Diego Supercomputing Center [SDSC], Georgia Tech [Gtech], National Institute for Computational Sciences [NICS], Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center [PSC], and others. A nice summary of site resources can be found here. Each site may have multiple clusters available serving different purposes so please review which site is most appropriate for the research you're trying to do.

Working List of Collaborations

Orchestra

    Reich Lab, Harvard Medical School:

"Orchestra has enabled the Reich lab to enter the emerging field of ancient DNA genetic analysis. The Reich lab is now screening hundreds of samples collected by archaeologist and anthropologist colleagues for ancient DNA, and analyzing the resulting sequence data. Working in concert with a specially constructed wet lab facility, high throughput screening for plausible samples at this scale requires access to hundreds of cores running in parallel, and thus critically relies on the compute resources orchestra provides. This work allows previously unknown transformations that shaped human history to be better understood."

    Buratowski Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Biostatistics and Analysis

    CBDM Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Pathway and network analysis of murine microarray data

    Dorf Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Pathway, network, and regulatory analysis of human protein interaction data

    Howley Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Pathway and network analysis of high-throughput human siRNA screen

Pathway and network analysis of human Mass Spectrometry screen

Pathway and network analysis of human Mass Spectrometry screen

    Krischner Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Investigating structural and functional characteristics de novo proteins

    Sharpe Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Pathway and network analysis of murine RNA-Seq data

    Systems Biology, Harvard Medical School
von Andrian Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Pathway and network analysis of murine microarray data

    Walker Lab, Harvard Medical School:

Pathway and network analysis of microbial microarray data

Walsh Lab, Children's Hospital of Boston:

    Single-cell next-generation sequence analysis

How to Cite Orchestra

To cite Orchestra in your paper, please use text similar to the following, modified to reflect the work you used Orchestra for:

Short: Portions of this research were conducted on the Orchestra High Performance Compute Cluster at Harvard Medical School. This NIH supported shared facility consists of thousands of processing cores and terabytes of associated storage and is partially provided through grant NCRR 1S10RR028832-01. See http://rc.hms.harvard.edu for more information.

Long(er): Orchestra is a shared High Performance Compute facility with 5500+ compute cores, more than 40TB of memory and access to multiple petabytes of network and local data storage capacity. We provide access to hundreds of applications for computational analysis. Job submissions are managed by LSF from Platform Computing and the majority of nodes run Debian linux. In addition to compute nodes, we host a web and database application environment integrated with Orchestra's HPCC. Orchestra is located in a state-of-the-art data center with multiple critical systems replicated at a secondary location for high availability. This environment is managed by the Research Computing group at Harvard Medical School. Support is partially provided through grant NCRR 1S10RR028832-01. See http://rc.hms.harvard.edu for more information.
